The Goal of a Product Designed for Sensitive Skin
Like we said, we wanted the Unscented Facial Oil to do more than just moisturize.
The ingredients in this formula are designed to:- Moisturize without exacerbating acne, and even reduce the occurrence of breakouts.
- Reduce inflammation.
- Soothe skin flare ups, itchiness, and dry patches.
- Help to minimize scarring from past flare ups.
- Stimulate cell turnover.
- Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Protect skin from free radical damage.
So here’s how we did it:
The Moisturizing Base
For some people, the switch to using oil instead of lotion as a moisturizer can be a little scary. The trick is knowing which oil is best for your skin type.
Soothing Herbs
You’ll notice that the herbal infusion for our Unscented Facial Oil is a lot simpler than some of our other infusions. We wanted to stick to ingredients that promote cell turnover and healing, but aren’t likely to cause skin flare ups for anyone who is sensitive. These are the 3 herbs we chose:
Helichrysum
Helichrysum is used in aromatherapy to heal emotional wounds, and it works similarly for your skin, helping to heal wounds and fade scars.
Calendula
Take a look at a calendula flower and it shouldn’t surprise you that it’s high in carotenoids, the compound that gives plants their bright orange color.
Lavender
The word lavender comes from the latin root ‘lavare,’ which means ‘to wash.’ People used to take baths in this cleansing herb, and it’s even said that Roman soldiers would take it to war with them to use to dress ounds.
Potent Seed Oils
Oils differ in their composition and thus bring different benefits to the skin. Of course, not all are created equal. Here are some oils that are unique in that they soothe sensitive skin while offering other potent, anti-aging properties.
Sacha Inchi Oil
Exceptionally high in omega-3s, sacha inchi oil is said to help the skin protect itself against sun damage, a factor that can cause it to age prematurely. We won’t say too much more about it here because we already talked your ear off about how amazing sacha inchi is last week.
Perilla Seed Oil
High in antioxidants and omega-3s, perilla oil provides similar benefits as sacha inchi oil, helping to reduce the occurrence of breakouts while delivering a beautifying dose of antioxidants to the skin.
Pomegranate Seed Oil
Pomegranates recently got a lot of attention for their value as a health food, with pomegranate juice quickly earning more shelving space in the grocery store.
