An Easy, Breezy, Food-Based DIY Skin Cooling Mist

Just In Time For Summer Fun: An Easy, Breezy Food-Based DIY Skin Cooling Mist
OK, kids, it’s officially getting hot! Temperatures are rising all across the
country, and the onset of summer is just over a week away. It’s time to get outside for summer fun! No matter your chosen activity of outdoor awesomeness, though, you’re bound to get overheated from time to time with these sky-high temps. And, even worse, you could forget the sunscreen or protective clothing and get a little bit of a sunburn.
But, never fear — your friends at One Green Planet are here to help save the day! All you need to do to sooth that overheated and/or burnt skin is a little DIY action and a few simple ingredients. Mist this combo onto dried or burnt skin, and you’ll be back in moisture land before you know it.
For the ingredients, you’ll need:
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh aloe
  • 1 teaspoon of melted  (liquid) coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup cool water
The cucumber water, which we’ll strain from the cucumber, will provide cooling and tightening effects to your skin when applied. The coconut oil will soften and moisturize your skin. The aloe will soothe your skin and also improve circulation. The water serves to blend all the ingredients and provide a smooth carrier to the mist you are creating.
For tools, you’ll need:
  • Access to a blender.
  • A good spray bottle. Reuse something from an old beauty product (something that was safe for skin), or you can buy a new little spray bottle — opt for glass if you can find one.
  • A cheesecloth or strong napkin.
  • A small bowl.
Now, here are your steps:
  1. Peel and cube the cucumber. Then, put the cucumber in your blender and blend well for a minute or two. Using a cheesecloth (or a thick napkin), strain the cucumber juice in to a small bowl.
  2. In the bowl, add your aloe, coconut oil (this should be in liquid form — but not hot! Let it cool if you melted it to down to get it in liquid form), and 1/2 cup of cool water. Mix well. You can take this liquid mixture and blend it all together if you want to, too.
  3. Pour this mixture into your spray bottle and refrigerate for at least two hours before using. Also, be sure to store this in the frig when you’re not using it to soothe your skin. This will last in the frig for up to a week and a half or so.
Now all that’s left to do is mist this cooling concoction on your skin any time you feel overheated, need moisture, or get a little too much sun. The great thing about this DIY mist is that it’s entirely free of chemicals so you can feel free to spray all over. It’s also money saving — no big jugs of aloe vera needed for you. What’s more is that it has powerful natural ingredients that will work together to not only soothe skin, but also heal and make it better in the process. We hope you enjoy this soothing DIY beauty fix!
